David Berceli is the founder and CEO of TRE® and was a Clinical Social Worker (PhD) and Certified Field Traumatologist (CFT) when he patented the TRE process.  He spent 15 years, living and working among war-torn nations in Africa and the Middle East.  He has provided services for the US military and international relief organisations so he has witnessed the result of trauma first hand on so many occasions. He has developed the Trauma Release process to assist anyone who has been subjected to stress or trauma of any kind, including Developmental Trauma and PTSD. It may assist someone who lost their job or has a financial crisis, a child falling off their bike,  a near-fatal road smash, soldiers, first responders or people with day to day stress that is impacting life in a negative way.

TRE® is the perfect tension and trauma release for our busy lifestyles. With the global rise in the diagnoses of anxiety, depression, PTSD and a host of autoimmune diseases, it is becoming apparent that we need to take our healing into our own hands. Medication is not always the best answer as it merely suppresses symptoms and does not necessarily cure it. TRE is not a ‘talk therapy’ so it does NOT require you to recall or talk about past events (as with cognitive behavioural or talk-based approaches.) TRE® is entirely focused on releasing the body’s physical reactions to stress and trauma, leaving you generally calm and relaxed.

I believe this simple series of TRE exercises, designed to release trauma and stress, without having to re-live the event, is a miracle in itself.

I first met David at his Sydney workshop in December 2012.  I was so impressed with the man and his work that I fast-tracked my training to become a Level 1 TRE® Provider. I continued my training to complete Level 2 Provider training. What happens in a TRE class?

What Happens?

I will guide you through a series of exercises, which are specifically designed to fatigue certain muscle groups and activate your Psoas muscles. Then you lie down on your back and assume several different leg positions where your legs naturally shake or tremor in whatever rhythm the body chooses. The mind does not need to be engaged in this process and it can be very relaxing.  You may be tremoring away old trauma, new stresses – it does not matter what. Recalling past events or memories is not needed.  The body uses its innate wisdom to release whatever stress or tension pattern is appropriate, just as an animal does in the wild. Once completed, we have a short relaxation/meditation to allow you to integrate the process and then an opportunity to share (if you wish) what you have experienced.

How do you feel afterwards?

Students comment on feeling more relaxed, blissed-out, more clarity, sleeping better, more energised, less pain, better demeanour and a host of other benefits. Try it and see for yourself.

A session lasts around 90 minutes including exercises and may be repeated 2 – 3 times per week, tremoring for 10-15 minutes firstly with a qualified TRE provider such as myself and eventually self-regulating your own tremors.

How long will I shake for?

The shaking part of the session should be no longer than 10-15 minutes as the body may tire or become overstimulated.

How long until I am cured?

TRE is a gift for life. Stress is a fact of life, and releasing it in a safe way is ongoing and necessary. Tremoring helps you to manage and release stress, whenever and wherever necessary. I plan to get you to a place where you can practise on your own, safely and easily.

Will I lose control?

The purpose of our session is to help you feel comfortable and in control at all times.  You learn how to self-regulate and really become aware of the movements in your body. The shake may seem weird and strange at first but it becomes your go-to for calming your nervous system as you become more practised.

This is a safe and effective way to resolve all stress and trauma-related issues. David works with many soldiers who suffer with PTSD as a result of their military service and has had huge success with rehabilitation and understanding of this disease.

The experiences we have had in our lives will dictate, to a large extent how successful and happy we can be in our lives. An event such as a traumatic birth experience can cause untold damage to the nervous system, to the skeletal structure and to our emotional and mental faculties. There are many modalities available that go some way in correcting the imbalance or trauma we have experienced. None are as simple and profound as Trauma Release Exercises -TRE.
