Lenny the Cat, Pelican Waters

Gerry: After such a fabulous time in the UK it was going to be hard not to have a bit of a let down emotionally. But Jann and Hugh welcomed us into their beautiful home in Pelican Waters on the canal and only a short walk to the ocean on the South end of the Sunshine Coast. Lenny was pretty aloof the first couple of days. Jacky turned on the charm for him and soon he was sleeping with us wrapped around Jacky’s head. Five weeks of relaxation and finding our Aussie mojo again.

Jacky: I was on an emotional rollercoaster with this sit.  Leaving my homeland, England and my dear family and friends left me feeling raw emotionally. We were staying in a beautiful home, in a fabulous location but because we were not ‘at home’ ie Gold Coast, I felt like I was in solitary confinement as Gerry went out and Uberred each day.  Quick catch ups with my daughters and a couple of friends were my social life apart from a rather disastrous weekend where we volunteered at the Caloundra Music Festival. That story is for another time!  Needless to say, animals being animals, Lenny saved the day. We built a lovely bond between us and he became quite demanding of my attention, which I really did not mind! Sleeping on my pillow. Making holes in my chest as he patted his paws on me in the evenings. He became a constant companion and a really loving little guy. He liked our travel mascot Yogi too, as you can see in the pic below.

The weather settled and we had beautiful sunny days.  The outdoor area was a fabulous yoga deck for Gerry and I. Caloundra and its beaches were a great place to be with my emotions and release them to the ocean.

Breaking News

Actually heart-breaking news.  We just got a call from Lenny’s owners, only three weeks before we are due to arrive to look after lovely Lenny once again. He has had a tumour on the liver and he has had to be euthanised. We are so sad.  Lenny was such an aloof little fella when we arrived and would strut in for his food and look at us as if to say, “Who do you think you are?”  Over the course of the next few days, he completely changed as he settled into us being there. He’d saunter in and eat first then find a comfy spot for us to snuggle or just be close. A little place in our hearts is forever with lovely Lenny.
