You are designed to be healthy human beings. In today’s society, you knowingly or unknowingly ingest toxins, and you live with too much stress in your busy life. You have relationship issues, issues with the kids, and financial issues.  Any or all of these can impact your health. Sooner or later this can lead to dis-ease in the body. This may manifest as pain, illness, imbalance, low self-esteem, emotional stress, depression, or sensitivities to lifestyle and diet. Disease is happening inside our body, often for many years, without us even realising something is wrong. Until it shows up as a symptom, we have no idea.

Reiki healing allows you to release stress and detox so that the body can heal and regenerate itself effectively. It assists the cells of the body to open to receiving the Universal Life Force Energy of Reiki in any area that may be in need of healing and balancing.  It may bring up emotions or evoke a detoxification response as the energy begins to work with your body to create healing and recuperation.  Reiki has its own intelligence and will work with any imbalance in the body, the mind, or the emotions.

Why do we need Reiki?

To bring our body and our life into balance. So much of what we encounter in life knocks us off our true purpose. Reiki may assist in the calming of the nervous system and help us find our path to wellness, joy, and peace.

Reiki is for balance; to balance the nervous system, the lymphatic system, the digestive system, our hormones, and all of our natural bodily functions. It’s a simple hands-on process that may restore, relax and rejuvenate, bringing zest back into our lives to maintain equilibrium, harmony, and a sense of joy and peace. Everyone can give or receive Reiki. Quite literally Reiki can assist the healing of the planet.

What is Reiki?

Reiki is Universal Life Force Energy that exists in all living things. A blade of grass, a dog, or a human, all possess a life force. When we attend Reiki Healing or Reiki Training, that life force is activated so that our body, our mind, and our soul access the healing energies which are available to us. By the simple laying on of hands, a Reiki healer channels Universal Life Force Energy into your body. You may not feel it but the energy is profoundly powerful and assists your healing in so many ways.

Many healers feel the energy coursing through their bodies when they heal. Their hands get warm and tingly and they act as a channel for that healing energy to be transferred to the patient to awaken the Life Force within. The healer does not do the healing for you. Once activated, your body is able to heal whatever is necessary, mental, emotional, physical, or spiritual, to bring you back to balance. For most people, this may be a very subtle process where you may just feel more relaxed than usual. For others, the healing may be powerful, unexpected, and profound.

Combined with a healthy lifestyle and diet, Reiki may sustain your wellbeing and reduce the symptoms of stress into your senior years.

Hands-on Healing or Distance Healing

Reiki is a simple hands-on process. Easy to learn and easy to practice.

As we progress through the levels of Reiki (Reiki 1, 2, Masters, Karuna Reiki Masters) we learn symbols that allow us to send Reiki across the room, across town, or around the world. We also learn to activate a Reiki Peace Grid to send continuous healing. Healing on a global scale.

Research

Reiki is best compared to systems of healing based on therapeutic touch endemic to indigenous cultures across the world, which are held sacred and passed down between generations. Indigenous cultures understood that well-being was an integral part of a system in which people exchange energy with each other, their community, and nature.

Such healing methods are poorly understood by conventional science, as they fall outside physically-oriented paradigms. Notwithstanding, a small but growing body of conventional research exists on Reiki confirming it benefits.

A number of studies have shown that Reiki may be effective in reducing pain, anxiety, and depression, and improving the quality of life in people with cancer, heart disease, and other conditions. A good summary of research into the benefits of Reiki for cancer patients can be found here [1].

A recent paper published in January 2023 [2] presents the results of an ongoing pilot study consisting of 15-min Reiki sessions delivered to hospital staff on their units. It found an average decrease in self-reported stress of 60% based on pre and post-surveys and suggests that Reiki can be integrated into an array of daily activities so care providers can access its benefits.

In another recent study from 2021 [3], a qualitative single-blind randomised controlled trial on the effect of Reiki on the stress level of caregivers of patients with cancer, caregivers reported that they found the caring process less stressful after Reiki sessions. The study found that post-intervention Caregiver Strain Index (CSI) scores declined in the Reiki group compared with that in the sham Reiki group (p < 0.05). None of the caregivers reported any side effects.

The study also found that Reiki, administered to caregivers who cared for patients with cancer for 6 weeks, once a week for 45 min, measurably decreased the stress level as well as systolic and diastolic blood pressure and slowed the pulse rate. It did not lead to a significant difference in saliva cortisol levels (a measure of chronic stress) within this time period.

A review study published in 2017 looked at the available clinical studies of Reiki to determine whether there is evidence for Reiki providing more than just a placebo effect [4]. Of 13 eligible studies that met the inclusion criteria (i.e. peer-reviewed studies with more than 20 participants in the Reiki treatment arm, and controlling for a placebo effect), 8 demonstrated Reiki being more effective than placebo, 4 found no difference but had questionable statistical resolving power, and only one provided clear evidence for not providing benefit. The authors concluded:

‘Viewed collectively, these studies provide reasonably strong support for Reiki being more effective than placebo.’
